British Association of Mindfulness-based Approaches (BAMBA)

As the availability of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) continues to expand, it becomes increasingly important to ensure that the training and delivery of these approaches adhere to recognised standards that support safe and ethical practice.

The British Association of Mindfulness-based Approaches (BAMBA), of which Sussex Mindfulness Centre is a founding member, was established in 2006. It is the lead organisation overseeing the quality of mindfulness-based teaching, training and supervising in the UK.

Aim of BAMBA

BAMBA aims to support and develop good practice and integrity in the delivery of mindfulness-based approaches. It does this in order to contribute to its wider ambition to ensure mindfulness is offered by well-trained teachers, and that mindfulness is available to all who can benefit from it.

BAMBA developed the Good Practice Guidelines (GPGs) to provide clarity about acknowledged standards in the field of mindfuness-based interventions. These are intended to support the safe, effective and ethical provision of mindfulness approaches in the UK. It has additionally developed Good Practice Guidelines for mindfulness teacher trainers and for those supervising teachers.

As a member organisation of BAMBA, the Sussex Mindfulness Centre strongly encourages all those teaching and training in mindfulness-based approaches to become familiar with these guidelines and to practice in accordance with them.

BAMBA Listing

Mindfulness-based teachers who have undergone sufficient training and are able to demonstrate adherence to the Good Practice Guidelines are eligible to be listed on the BAMBA national register.

The directory provides assurance for those wishing to attend a mindfulness-based course that listed teachers have received adequate training, supervision and ongoing continuing professional development, and that they adhere to the Good Practice Guidelines in their teaching.
