Compassion-oriented events

Our compassion-oriented events support the development of people interested in compassion-oriented approaches, such as Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) and Mindfulness-based Compassionate Living (MBCL). These include events lasting from one day up to a week and are typically led by nationally and internationally renowned speakers, as well as by local teachers with experience and training in this field.

  • 2-day Core Skills Workshop in Mindful Self-Compassion

with Dr Kristin Neff and Dr Chris Germer

We’re delighted to be able to offer the only UK Mindful Self Compassion workshop in 2022 with Kristin Neff and Chris Germer *:

Saturday and Sunday 2-3 July 2022

    9.00am-5.00pm

Paganini Ballroom, Old Ship Hotel, 31-38 Kings Road, Brighton BN1 1NR

“Mindful self-compassion is an approach that has enormous potential to be balm for health care staff beleaguered by the pandemic, for those of us who’d like to have a kinder inner dialogue, and in particular, for those experiencing the joys and struggles of the human condition. We’re absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to learn this approach from its founders and so to warmly welcome Kristin Neff and Chris Germer.”  Robert Marx

The MSC Core Skills program is a workshop and not a retreat.  Program activities include talks, meditation, experiential exercises, and group discussion. Participants will directly experience self-compassion and learn practices that evoke self-compassion in daily life (and the rationale behind them).

This Core Skills Workshop allows an opportunity for people to immerse themselves in  some of the key practices and exercises of the full 8-week program in an intensive 2-day format.

After participating in this workshop, you will be able to:

    1. Understand the science of self-compassion
    2. Handle difficult emotions with greater ease
    3. Motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism
    4. Manage caregiver fatigue
    5. Practice the art of savouring and self-appreciation
    6. Teach simple self-compassion exercises
    7. Take the first step towards training as an MSC teacher

This workshop is an introduction to MSC and is not a qualification to teach the 8-week MSC Course which requires further training. No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend the program.

    Cost:

    £300 Standard ticket

    £250 Trust-employed ticket
for Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust-approved mindfulness teachers, trainers and SPFT advocates (no free places).

The price includes tea & coffee with pastries/biscuits during the breaks. Lunch or overnight accommodation are not included.

There will be a book stall at our event - with books at discounted prices and some will be signed by Kristin and Chris at the event.

    * Since the pandemic began, we’re all becoming experts in making and changing plans. This is the second time that Kristin and Chris are scheduled to come to Brighton, and we are planning for, and very much looking forward to, this to go ahead in person. However, we will adhere to Government guidelines and travel restrictions, and if necessary this course will be delivered online - over the same dates.

    Safety Precautions
We will follow whatever precautions are advised at the time of the event to protect everyone’s safety and health.
