It can be confusing to know which mindfulness teacher training programme is right for you. This page is designed to help you make the right choice.
Some questions to help you decide
Ask yourself the following questions to decide which course is right for you.
- Do you want to train to teach the eight-week Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) or the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course? Would you like to become eligible for registration as a mindfulness teacher with the British Association of Mindfulness-Based Approaches (BAMBA)?
If so, please find out more on our ‘Train to teach MBCT and MBSR’ page. - Do you want to train to teach brief and/or adapted mindfulness-based interventions? This enables you to teach mindfulness to current groups you work with. There is now a pathway to registering as a mindfulness teacher with BAMBA if you do this training.
If this is for you, please find out more on the Train to teach adapted mindfulness-based interventions page. - Do want to improve your skills in offering mindfulness as part of another intervention/therapy?
If so, please go to the Train to teach adapted mindfulness-based interventions page. - Do you want to train to teach the eight-week Mindful Self-Compassion programme. This is a good foundation for teaching other compassion-based programmes such as Fierce Self-Compassion and Self-Compassion for Care Workers.
If so, please visit Train to teach Mindful Self-Compassion. - Do you work in an NHS Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT) service and want to train to teach Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)?
If so, please visit the MBCT in NHS Talking Therapies page. - Are you interested in teacher training that prepares you to run the Interpersonal Mindfulness eight-week course? For this, you will already need to be a mindfulness teacher.
You can find out more on our teach Interpersonal Mindfulness page.
Look out for our online train-to-teach information sessions which are advertised below. These cover MBCT/MBSR and Adapted & Brief Interventions in one session, and other sessions for the other courses we run. If there’s none showing at the moment email us at spft.smc@nhs.net and we’ll let you know about the next one or send you a recording of a past one.
