Mindfulness teacher training pathway
Our teacher training enables you to teach the eight-week Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy or Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course. See the teacher training pathway below.
BAMBA registration
Many organisations offer teacher training, but not all take you so far along the pathway to reaching your BAMBA registration. BAMBA is the primary professional body of mindfulness practitioners, teachers, and teacher training organisations in the UK. To register as a teacher with BAMBA you need to have done your training with an affiliated, quality assessed teacher training organisation of BAMBA. Sussex Mindfulness Centre is a BAMBA quality assessed teacher training provider.
Mindfulness teacher training pathway
The teacher training pathway is outlined below. Steps 1 and 2 are required before starting your teacher training. Steps 3 to 5 describe the teacher training journey that you can do with us. After you have completed your training with us, steps 6 and 7 cover the final actions before applying to register as a teacher with BAMBA.
Before teacher training

1) You need to take an eight-week Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy or Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course as a pre-requisite to the teacher training. You can do this with us or with any other organisation or teacher that is BAMBA registered. If you do this course with us we will reimburse the £250 course fee from your teacher training fee. Find our upcoming courses here.

2) You will need to have a regular personal meditation practice before training to teach.
Teacher training with Sussex Mindfulness Centre

3) Our annual part-time teacher training from February to December includes 11.5 days of teaching sessions and masterclasses, four peer learning meetings, and two tutorials.

4) As part of the teacher training you will be required to attend a five-day residential retreat. We arrange a retreat that is specifically tailored to the needs of trainee teachers to support you with this requirement.

5) In consultation with you, we will arrange for you to co- teach your first eight-week mindfulness course alongside an experienced teacher, who will also provide supervision. After you have done this, you will recieve a certificate to confirm that you have completed your training with us.
Getting ready for BAMBA registration

6) For BAMBA registration you will need to arrange to lead or co-teach another eight-week mindfulness course, with supervision. We can support you to find a suitably qualified supervisor or you can find a list of approved supervisors at the Mindfulness Network here. You can find out about BAMBA supervision requirements for registered teachers here.
If you have a clinical qualification you can now teach MBCT to clinical groups. Otherwise, you can now teach MBSR or MBCT to the general public, community and non-clinical groups.

7) You can see the Good Practice Guidelines and check you meet these before applying for BAMBA registration.
